THE ROOTED VOICE Workshop med Saule Ryan och Magnus Marcinkowski Pettersson

In this workshop we will help participants open up their voices in an organic and playful way, starting with body and breathing exercises and then moving on to an accompanied exploration of all the possible colours and timbres of the voice, first at the piano and then in the space. We all have a voice and every voice has its own unique beauty which needs to be heard and expressed to the full. The Roy Hart approach to the voice and body allows us to reconnect with ourselves in a very profound way. We will combine musical expression and freedom of interpretation through new angles of play that will allow you to gain both presence and confidence.

Saule Ryan met the Roy Hart Theatre in London in 1970 while studying photography. He was so impressed by what he saw and heard that he decided to take voice lessons himself. Within a very short space of time he found himself performing in some of their very alternative theatre pieces. The company moved to the south of France in 1974 and Saule went with them, continuing to perform in many different shows, and then began teaching voice in 1977. He still loves teaching and helping students discover new things about themselves, and last summer he performed with colleagues in a senior piece called “Generation “ as part of a festival marking the 50 years anniversary of the company’s arrival in France. A great moment for us all.

Magnus Marcinkowski Pettersson had his first contact with the voice work of the Roy Hart Theatre in 2002 in a three week workshop at the centre. In 2018 he felt he wanted to go further and deeper in the work so he decided to join the Advanced Pedagogic Group and there he started his journey towards becoming a Roy Hart Teacher, he is now an apprentice of the work and Saule is his mentor. Magnus is an experienced musician, musictherapist and teacher and is a member of the dance, music and theatre company Big Wind that is located in Gothenburg.
